The Arizona STEM Acceleration Project (ASAP) is a powerful STEM education resource supporting teachers, families, and students with hands-on lesson plans and enrichment activities. Led by Arizona State University, ASAP connects real-world learning with classroom innovation—reaching far beyond Arizona.

How ASAP Supports STEM Learning in Classrooms

Supported by Arizona State University’s Center for Science and Imagination and Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, over 500 ASAP STEM Fellows are providing STEM lesson plans and enrichment activities to everyone. 

Using Puzzles to Teach STEM Concepts

One example of ASAP’s impact is a multi-grade climate change lesson created by STEM Fellow Vicky Manning. The lesson incorporates our King Penguin puzzle to help students explore:

• Mathematical problem-solving using real-world data

• Climate and environmental map analysis

• Energy, ice, and conservation of matter

• Reading and writing about penguins and climate change

• Collaboration inspired by penguin survival strategies

Inspiring Deeper STEM Learning at Home and School

Drawing inspiration from penguins' cooperative strategies, students are encouraged to collaborate in addressing real-world challenges.
